In April 2025, we shared news of the draft Consolidated Practice Directives 1 of 2025, published by the Community Schemes Ombud Service (CSOS). This 170-page document covered 15 key areas of CSOS operations, and we encouraged stakeholders to review the document and submit feedback on its content, given the significance of the proposed changes.
On Friday, 18 July, CSOS published the final version of the Practice Directive, which, according to the introduction of the document, “supersedes all previous directives, circulars and guidelines issued on the same subject matter” and “is to serve as single source of reference to the prescribed practice issued by CSOS.”
Further to this, they have informed stakeholders that, “From the effective date, there will be a repeal of all prior directives. All stakeholders are expected to adhere to the updated practices as outlined in this directive to ensure consistency and alignment with current standards and objectives.”
In light of the above, it is clear that a good grasp of this document will prove to be invaluable to all who interact with CSOS, or intend to make use of their services.
Over the coming months, Auren and Ané will be publishing a series of articles that unpack and explain the directive and its effect on the industry in more accessible terms.
